A SPOKESPERSON FOR VLADIMIR PUTIN SAYS HE BELIEVES US AIR STRIKES ON SYRIA’S ARMY ARE ‘ILLEGAL’ AND BADLY DAMAGE RELATIONS WITH RUSSIA.
Vladimir Putin “regards the strikes as aggression against a sovereign nation,” according to his spokesman Dmitry Peskov, noting that the president of Russia believes the airstrikes were conducted “in violation of international law, and also under an invented pretext.”
On April 6, Trump ordered the firing of 59 cruise missiles at a military target in Syria in retaliation of Assad’s alleged use of chemical weapons on civilians in Syria earlier this week.
Peskov claims that “the Syrian army doesn’t have chemical weapons,” explaining that this had been “observed and confirmed by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, a special UN unit.”
“This step deals significant damage to US-Russian ties, which are already in a deplorable state,” Peskov said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a direct threat to the United States and President Trump over the air strikes on a Syrian airfield, warning they should consider the "negative consequences" that World War Three between Russia and the US would bring. The warning comes in response to the US launching 59 Tomahawk missiles on a Syrian air base believed to be the source of a chemical attack that killed at least 80 civilians including 28 children, despite many experts claiming that the attack was a false flag designed to frame President al-Assad and his regime.Syrian Army officials have claimed that 6 people have been killed by the US missile strikes.Speaking about the attack by the United States, Russia’s deputy UN envoy Vladimir Safronkov said:
"We have to think about negative consequences, negative consequences, and all the responsibility if military action occurred will be on shoulders of those who initiated such doubtful and tragic enterprise." The Russian warning comes after President Trump gave a passionate speech to the nation from the White House, following the gas attack in Syria on Tuesday.Express reports: The strike was launched at 8:45 pm ET, targeting the airfield's hangars, aircraft, runways, and fuel storage areas – while Trump was dining with the Chinese leader Xi Jinping.The US strike caused “losses”, according to a Syrian military source, but numbers are yet to be confirmed.The US military believes the strike has “severely damaged or destroyed Syrian aircraft and support infrastructure” – as many as 14 fighter jets have been destroyed.Responding to the attack, President Trump held an impromptu press conference and said: “Tonight I ordered a targeted military strike on the military airfield in Syria from where the chemical attack was launched."“It is in vital national security interests of the United States to prevent the spread and use of chemical weapons.”The Pentagon has confirmed Russia was notified of the strike. Spokesman Captain Jeff Davis said: “Russian forces were notified in advance of the strike using the established deconfliction line. US military planners took precautions to minimize risk to Russian or Syrian personnel located at the airfield."However, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said: "There were no discussions or prior contacts, nor had there been any since the attack on Moscow."
