LOUD explosions heard over Syria last night have sparked claims the Israeli Air Force has struck Hezbollah troops.

Initial reports suggested Israel may have targeted Syrian troops, but this claim was denied by pro-regime media.

The speculation comes just days after US President Donald Trump launched a rocket attack on a Syrian airbase after Assad’s brutal chemical weapons attack in north-western Syria.

According to reports, “loud explosions” were heard overnight near the Falita Barrens in northwest Damascus.

The Falita Barrens are located near the Lebanese border-crossing, where there are said to be Hezbollah fighters.

The Lebanese Islamist group is a long-standing enemy of Israel that is fighting on the side of Assad’s regime.

Pro-regime news website al-Masdar this morning reported that the Syrian army is not present in the region, but the possibility remains Israel was striking Hezbollah.

It comes after Israel last month acknowledged its fighter jets struck at a military base in Syria.

In November Israeli forces killed four ISIS militants in the war-torn country in the first direct clash between the country and the terror group.
