The presence of fluoride in
public drinking water (fluoridation) is causing some concerns because even if
fluoride is used to fight cavities, it was (and still is) used in insecticides
and rat poison.
Fluorosis
is a condition that wears down the enamel of the tooth, leaving behind white
spots, making the teeth more vulnerable to cavities and decay. Fluorosis is a
very real health condition that can effect both children and adults. And more
and more evidence is mounting against the use fluoride, even in small amounts.
But it doesn’t appear to be a
critical issue according to the US Surgeon Generals, as the last 5 Surgeon
Generals have supported the fluoridation of drinking water. Incidentally, the
claimed health benefits almost always point to oral health.
Fortunately, the CDC is calling
for new labelling rules requiring manufacturers to list a product’s fluoride
content, which we have found to be missing in some cases.
n estimated 5-10g of sodium
fluoride can be lethal for some adults.
While fluoride provides benefits
to your oral health, it can also come with adverse side effects, that vary in
severity depending upon the amount of fluoride consumed. Excessive consumption
of fluoride can lead to gastrointestinal discomfort.
This can occur with doses 15 to
20 times lower than actual lethal doses (0.2-0.3mg/kg).
Fluoride in excessive amounts
can also cause problems in the formation bone.
Ways to Remove Fluoride from
Water
Reverse Osmosis
Filtration
This process is used for purifying some, but not all types of bottled water. Reverse osmosis systems is typically not affordable for personal or general public use.

Activated Alumina
Defluoridation Filter
A home water filtration solution. But it’s quite an expensive solution at approximately $30/filter and the filters require frequent replacement.

Distillation Filtration
Commercial distillation filters that can be purchase to remove fluoride from water. While the fluoride can be removed from distilled water, it still may have other impurities that could prevent it from being unusable as drinking water.

Brita, Pur, and other
Filters
These filters do not remove Fluoride. If you check the websites, and labels, the descriptions state that fluoride is left in the water after filtration.

Will Boiling Water Remove
Fluoride?
No, this will only concentrate the fluoride rather than reduce it.

Will Freezing Water
Reduce Fluoride?
No, this method has no affect on the presence of fluoride.

How to Reduce Fluoride Exposure
Check Water Bottling Labels
for Fluoride
Read labels on bottles. Unless
they are made with distilled or reverse-osmosis water, it was probably made
with fluoridated public water.

I use crystal springs water. It is on both lists. I would like to know if it has fluoride.
ReplyDeleteYes it has.
ReplyDeleteWhy is it on both lists?
ReplyDeleteWhy is Poland Springs on both lists??
ReplyDeleteI buy Crystal Geiser, doest it have flouride?
ReplyDeleteyes unfortunately :(
DeleteThat it might have been used against insects (the rat poison link is suspect at best) is of no relevance at all!!! Grapes & Chocolate are deadly to dogs, is that a reason to deem them 'poison' and stop consuming them? Potassium Chloride is used in lethal injection, but the 2 elements alone, in trace dosages - Potassium & Chloride are essential to human life. H2O is used in the manufacture of all sorts of chemicals & weapons; and consumed in excess it can lead to death by hyponutremia -- does this mean we should swear off water?!
ReplyDeleteFluoride fear-mongering is patently ridiculous. We know that PPM standardised dosages in water are effective at reducing caries & cavities and at such a miniscule dosage, the risk-factor is almost non-existent... ALL FLUORIDE STANDARDISATION DOES IS SEEK TO MINIC A NATURAL PHENOMENON! Fluoride exists in natural bodies of water throughout the world (it would be a challenge to find natural water w/o trace Fluoride) but some areas have more than others.
Many decades ago, they noticed that children in Texas had a higher degree of fluorosis, and that there seemed to be a correlation b/w fluorosis & LESS CARIES/CAVITIES. After much study, they proved the causative factor was higher fluoride in their water supply, and even showed the exact mechanism of action by which fluoride hardens our enamel. This phenomenon was termed TEXAS TEETH.
Eventually, they ran a large test in which they compared 2 demographically similar cities for a number of years, one w/ Parts-Per-Million Fluoride Standardization, one without. In that large, mutli-year study they proved that PPM standardisation was EXCELLENT PUBLIC POLICY and this is what started the practice in the USA.
PPM Standardization is practiced worldwide, and there's medical & dental concensus on its safety & efficacy... It's a fringe minority of fear mongers that oppose it.
Naturally occurring calcium fluoride is different than fluorosilicic acid (which is used in municipality waters because of low cost. And it comes from phosphate fertilizers, drink up sheeple!) Municipalities here have been "treating" the water since 1965, so I buy bottled. I know I'm filling earth holes with plastic, but it's better than drinking neurotoxin. ReplyDeleteIt seems anymore your not safe no matter what you do............
