On June 20, the Pentagon issued a report, in which it said Afghanistan is “at a critical point” in its battle against multiple insurgencies and terrorist groups.
The US defense department conceded that sixteen years after the US-led invasion, Afghanistan still faces a “continuing threat” from as many as 20 insurgent and terrorist networks, calling it “the highest concentration of extremist and terrorist groups in the world.”



Analysts believe US motivation in moving ISIS to Afghanistan would be bringing the Takfiri terrorists closer to Russia.Zamir Kabulov, the Russian Foreign Ministry's director of the Second Asian Department in Afghanistan last September stated that, Moscow “is concerned over the rise of ISIS in Afghanistan because it has far-reaching geopolitical consequences for Russian safety.” The US bears responsibility for the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan, he added. Pundits believe the US, which controls NATO forces in Afghanistan, can use ISIS terrorists in the country to threaten and harm its traditional adversaries namely Russia
CIS states sound alarm

The head of the Anti-Terrorist Center (ATC) of the Commonwealth of Independent States Col. Gen. Andrey Novikov has warned that ISIS terrorists are seeking to shift the main focus of their activity from Syria and Iraq to Afghanistan and neighboring states especially Russia.
